Kolhapur Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Kolhapur

As sugarcane cultivation is abundant in Kolhapur district, with the noble intention of establishing a market for jaggery made from sugarcane in Kolhapur itself, so that the people may prosper, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj established the jaggery market in Kolhapur in the year 1895. The Kolhapur State applied the Market Act to this market on 15th October 1945. Earlier, the Act of 1939 was in force. At present, this market committee functions under the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Development and Regulation) Act, 1963 and the rules framed thereunder in 1967.
